Why I Love Turmeric & Why You Should Too

Why I Love Turmeric & Why You Should Too

In the past six months, turmeric has been taking over the internet. This lovely little root has been the main ingredient in a latte that has been popping up in coffee shops across the world. Even after trying it (so yummy BTW), I was still a little skeptical as to why turmeric was so great, which made me decide to do a little more research. It turns out that turmeric actually is an amazing super food and here is why:

Yes, skin. It sounded odd at first to me too, but doing a turmeric face mask (high in antioxidants) can help eliminate signs of aging and kill off bacteria that cause pimples. This spice has anti-inflammatory properties that help heal scars and any cuts that you may have.

2 tablespoons turmeric + enough coconut oil to make a thick paste

This is SO easy and you can use honey instead of coconut oil as well!

Turmeric has natural detox properties as well, which help stimulate your lymphatic system. This will help get toxins out of your body faster, and because its anti-inflammatory attributes, it will leave you with no bloat and a flat stomach (who doesn't want that). It will also help boost your metabolism so you can burn more calories faster!

1 teaspoon turmeric

1 pinch nutmeg

1 pinch cinnamon

1 cup almond milk

**Mix together in a small pot on low heat and serve in your favorite (sloth) mug :)

Besides promoting heart health, preventing cancer, and helping with cramps, turmeric is also a natural way to help with stress. Experts say that turmeric has the same effect on people with anxiety and depression that Prozac has. Whether you are feeling stressed, anxious, or even sad, turmeric can help! Drinking turmeric tea when I'm doing homework or even before bed (caffeine free heck ya) has made me not stress over how much stuff I have to do in such little time! A study also showed that turmeric helps your brain retain information better and boosts your memory along with cognitive function. So grab a glass or supplement next time you have a test to study for!

Well, thats all on my new found love for turmeric! Here is a little article that goes more in depth about the science behind everything!

See you soon!
